SESSION ABSTRACT:
During this session, Directors Scott Burris and Jennifer Ibrahim will provide an overview of the Public Health Law Research (PHLR) program and describe current issues in the field. Participants will then learn how to develop a public health law research project by examining case studies of two current PHLR grantees. Each grantee will present their study and describe the processes by which their projects were created and developed. Topics will include: choosing the right research questions, engaging partners, accessing and collecting data, choosing appropriate measures, and other conceptual and methodological issues. Participants will be encouraged to brainstorm and provide feedback on these various processes and to think about how alternative approaches may lead to successful project outcomes. Audience members will come away with a greater sense of the PHLR program and how to construct a public health law research project.
