APHA Session: Translating PHSSR to Practice

The purpose of the session is to facilitate the translation of practice-based research to public health practice. The emerging field of Public Health Services & Systems Research (PHSSR) focuses on the organization, funding, performance, and health outcomes of state and local public health departments. PHSSR is by definition practice-based or practice-focused research; however, the translation of research findings to public health practice remains challenging – both for the researcher as well as the practitioner.

This session will have two major components. First, selected researchers in the field of PHSSR who have provided conference presentations in the past 1-2 years will be discussing the steps that have taken place toward translation since their original presentations. Practice-based partners will provide the practice perspective on translation, with a clear identification of action steps taken, and results to-date. Second, investigators associated with the National Coordinating Center for PHSSR will guide participants in the use and availability of data relevant to the field. Panel discussions will provide meaningful opportunities for participants to ask questions and engage researchers and practitioners on the process of research translation.
