Dr. Avery presented "Impact of Federal Bioterrorism Funding on Local Health Department Preparedness Activities".
Dr. Avery addressed the problem of how the $5 billion dollars allocated to state and local health departments for preparedness since the nation was attacked on 9/11. He specifically is interested on how this preparedness funding is affecting activities at the local level. Additionally, he researched the affect of hiring an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and concluded while federal funding had ‘no significant direct impact on local activities, federal bioterrorism funds had an indirect effect on preparedness activities when an EP was hired.
