Patrick Remington, M.D., M.P.H. Professor of Population Health Sciences School of Medicine and Public Health University of Wisconsin Director Population Health Institute University of Wisconsin
Patrick Remington is a Professor of Population Health Sciences. He completed a Preventive Medicine Residency at the Centers for Disease Control, and is board certified in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Remington received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his M.P.H. from the University of Minnesota. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Population Health Sciences since 1997. He is also Associate Director for Population Health at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Director of the Wisconsin Public Health and Health Policy Institute.
Dr. Remington’s research interests are in the cancer surveillance and public health approaches to tobacco and cancer control. He has grants to examine regional differences in breast cancer rates in Wisconsin and to evaluate the effectiveness of the state’s tobacco control program (Wisconsin Tobacco Control Board). His earlier research examined the epidemiology of behavioral risk factors in populations, including smoking, diet and weight control practices, and alcohol use. More recently, he has studied characteristics and trends in preventive health practices. His research was one of the first to suggest that most, if not all, of the increase in breast cancer incidence was attributable to increasing rates of mammography in the population. He also conducted research on the effectiveness of interventions to increase the use of mammography in low income, rural populations.
