Special Issue of the Health Services Research Journal
Call for Papers for the Special PHSSR Issue of the HSR Journal
The US public health system has not had the attention it deserves, and that is certainly the case with health services research (HSR) and the paucity of HSR focused on the public health system. Only when we have good research will we be able to make evidence-based decisions about how to best utilize the resources of the public health system. This makes it vital that public health systems and services research (PHSSR) capacity be developed.
As a part of the continued development of the discipline of PHSSR, Dr. F. Douglas Scutchfield from the University of Kentucky, Dr. Glen Mays from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Debra Pérez, from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Dr. Nicole Lurie from the Rand Corporation are co-editing a supplemental edition of the journal Health Services Research to showcase some of the developing work in PHSSR and encourage more of our colleagues to get involved in this research.
Guidelines Manuscripts are currently being accepted for potential inclusion in the HSR supplement. There is no guarantee that a manuscript will be accepted. Guidelines for writers interested in submitting are available on the HSR Website (manuscript preparation guidelines are contained in section nine). Manuscripts will undergo a vigorous review process and, if accepted, may require substantial changes to what has been submitted. However, published papers will receive a great deal of visibility and are likely to be cited extensively, as experience indicates that articles published in this sort of supplement are key references in the literature, particularly when the field is in development, such as PHSSR.
Submission Papers need to be received by Dr. F. Douglas Scutchfield by August 21, 2008, so please indicate as soon as possible your willingness and ability to submit. Email submission is preferred.
Those interested in submitting a manuscript should contact Dr. F. Douglas Scutchfield by email, phone-859.218.2024, or by mail at the Center for PHSSR, 121 Washington Avenue, Room 105, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40506.
Questions If you have any questions, feel free to email or call 859-218-2020 Rick Ingram at the University of Kentucky Center for Public Health Systems and Services Research.
