Funding
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) stands at the forefront of funding for this effort. To date, RWJF has provided approximately $7 million to support Public Health Systems Research. In 2007, the Foundation will invest close to $2 million in the second year of a four-year funding commitment to build the field. However, the Foundation cannot advance the field alone; it will take a concerted effort by public and private players-at the local, state and national levels.
In 2003, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention launched the first PHSR research agenda. RWJF has used that platform as a springboard for current efforts and continues to increase awareness among both potential researchers and funders for this important area of research. Interest in Public Health Systems Research is gaining momentum, as evidenced by the 100 percent increase in grant applications from 2006 to 2007. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other private sector partners are also very interested in helping to advance this important area of research. The Foundation expects that this momentum and enthusiasm will result in a robust field of Public Health Systems Research, one that ultimately improves our public health system and the lives of the people it serves. “ (see link below to this text)
