Grantee Spotlight & Scutch's Blog
Laura H. Downey, Dr. P.H.
Dr. Downey is one of the first mini- grant awardees. Her primary research interest is the role of partnerships in mobilizing communities to address local health issues.
She is particularly interested in the range of partners with whom rural public health agencies can collaborate to address disparities. PHSSR provides a systematic approach to investigating partnerships with health agencies.
Findings from her mini-grant research were presented at the First Annual Keeneland Conference and at the National Rural Health Association annual conference.
Her presentation from the Keeneland Conference can be downloaded by clicking here. At the NRHA meeting, her poster, The Nature of Partnerships in Rural Public Health Systems, described the variation in type of and extent of partnerships in rural public health systems as compared to partnerships in urban public health systems.
Findings from this research suggest that partnerships are just as important in rural areas, but the leading partners and depth of collaboration in rural communities differ when compared to their urban counterparts.
Currently, Dr. Downey is revising a manuscript to be considered for the special issue of HSR dedicated to PHSSR.
