PHSSR Team Presents at AcademyHealth in June
Several members of the PHSSR team traveled to Washington, DC to attend the 25th Annual AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in June. On Saturday, June 8, AcademyHealth hosted the public health systems research interest group meeting. During the meeting, Dr. Michelyn Bhandari spoke about the replication of studies using National Public Health Performance Data and Dr. Glen Mays participated in the last session of the day to address the vision for PHSSR.
Two of the 2007 PHSSR Grantees also presented during the meeting: Dr. Patrick Bernet on formula based funding allocations in public health and Dr. Jacqueline Merrill on her comparative netowork analysis of LHDs. Additional details about the PHSSR special interest group meeting are available online.
During the three day meeting, our PHSSR team members presented five posters and Drs. Scutchfield, Mays, Costich and Honoré spoke to several groups. We are continuing to build awareness about the new online community for PHSSR, please visit www.publichealthsystems.org.
Make sure to visit our booth at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo in October, as well as at the Joint ASTHO-NACCHO meeting in September. We look forward to seeing many of you in California in the Fall!

Funding & Mini-Grantees
Each month in our InsideTrack e-Newsletter, we will focus on one of our Grantees. Currently, we have two groups of researchers and have issued a Call for Proposals to be submitted by January 2009.
GEORGE AVERY, Ph.D., M.P.A.
Dr. Avery’s research interests include public health preparedness.
This past April, he presented at our 1st Annual Keeneland Conference on the Impact of Federal Bioterrorism Funding on Local Health Department Preparedness Activities.
During the course of his research he found that there was no direct impact on the local health department emergency preparedness plans. However, there was evidence to support the fact that having a preparedness coordinator has a strong impact on LHDs.
If you would like to view his entire presentation, please click here. You may also be interested in contacting Dr. Avery about his research through our PHSSR Discussion Board.
We appreciate the drive and determiniation of our researchers! |
